My season ended at the end of March, this is a summary of 4 months of competitions:
Early Season NorAms:
My season started in Vernon and Rossland for the December NorAms. The highlight was a silver medal in the classic sprint in Vernon but the rest of the trip didn’t go as planned as I battled a cold (a recurring theme of my season!)
My major goal this season was to qualify for the Olympics and I truly believed that I would achieve my dream. I could give excuses why it didn’t happen but in the end I just didn’t have what it took during the trials races and other girls were stronger and faster on race day. It was a hard blow but it was exciting to see many of my friends and teammates representing Canada in Sochi.
My next stop was the Eastern Canadian Championships in Ottawa. I love visiting Ottawa, especially during the Winterlude Festival. I was starting to get my race legs back and I won 2 gold medals which were what I needed to qualify for a European B-tour.
I was excited to have the opportunity to race some European events in February. The trip started in Cesis, Latvia with our warm-up races at the Latvian National Championships. I was happy with 1st and 3rd at the event. Cesis was the most interesting place that we traveled to, I always love to do random things like exploring an 800-year old castle after a ski race!
My season finished in Corner Brook, Newfoundland with our National Championships. The first 2 races were not my finest as I was coming back from a bad cold but I turned it around with a 3rd in the sprint and 5th in the 30km final event. I spent a few days exploring the area after the races and found some beautiful spots!
